Load cells require an excitation voltage to generate an output signal.

Choosing the correct load cell excitation voltage is critical to improve measurement accuracy and reduce signal noise in industrial applications.

SP150F-520

Higher excitation voltage produces a larger signal, improving measurement accuracy and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). However, higher voltage also increases current, leading to heat generation in the strain gauges, which may cause signal drift or even damage if limits are exceeded.

Lower excitation voltage is acceptable and widely used. For example, 5V works reliably even for load cells rated at 10V, thanks to modern amplification technology.

SP25-520

It is also important to consider common mode voltage, typically 50% of the excitation voltage, ensuring compatibility with signal conditioning circuits.

At ORR Sensor Co., Ltd., we provide optimized load cell solutions to ensure accuracy, stability, and long-term performance in industrial applications.
